Description
In 2014 The Royal Mint started a five year commemoration of the First Wold War, making a journey from outbreak to armistice. The centenary of the outbreak of war is marked with this first £2 coin, followed by one coin each year until 2018, when the end of the war was remembered.
Obverse
The obverse bears the fourth definitive coin portrait of Queen Elizabeth II designed by Ian Rank Broadley, FRBS, FSNAD, whose initials IRB appear under the head.
The coin features the inscription ELIZABETH II D G REG FID DEF TWO POUNDS
Reverse
The reverse features the image of British Secretary of War, Lord Kitchener, pointing and the inscription THE FIRST WORLD WAR 1914-1918 YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU with the date 2014.
